The international programmes are accredited and offer many advantages, for example

  • internationally recognised degrees
  • professional involvement in an international context
  • advancement of multilingualism

International programmes are

  • programmes taught in languages other than German (mostly English)
  • joint degree programmes and double degree programmes as well as Erasmus Mundus programmes
  • programmes based on specific international agreements (e.g. Cotutelle – binational conferrals of doctoral degrees)


The University Preparation Programmes offer intensive courses for foreign applicants for a place at a university to prepare them for supplementary examinations prescribed by the universities.
The institutions offer courses in
  • German as a foreign language
  • English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography.

Universities and Universities of the Arts

Austria offers general classical universities, medical universities and universities of technology; moreover a university of economics, veterinary medicine and natural resources and applied life sciences, a university of mining as well as universities of the arts of international renown.

Erasmus Mundus

The Erasmus Mundus programme offers scholarships to students of exceptional quality to follow an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course or Joint Doctorate at two or more European universities, as well as scholarships to promote the mobility of students between European and non-European universities. The scheme is open to students throughout the world.

Marie Curie Actions Fellowships

Marie Curie Fellowships are available to researchers from across the world in all scientific and technological fields, with a view to promoting excellence in European research.

EU-Australia

Grants are available for student mobility at post-secondary school level between EU and Australian institutions participating in joint consortia projects.

EU-Canada

Grants are available for student mobility at advanced undergraduate and graduate level between EU and Canadian institutions participating in joint consortia projects.

EU-Japan

Grants are available for student mobility at Masters level between EU and Japanese universities participating in joint consortia projects.

EU-Korea

Grants are available for student mobility between EU and Korean universities participating in joint consortia projects.

EU-New Zealand

Grants are available for student mobility at Masters level between EU and New Zealand universities participating in joint consortia projects.

EU-US (Atlantis)

Grants are available for student mobility at advanced undergraduate and graduate level between EU and American institutions participating in joint consortia projects as well as for research or lecturing on EU affairs or EU-US relations at an accredited institution in the EU or US under the Schuman-Fulbright scheme.
